I am running officew 2k3 pro full install on xp sp2 with all critical
patches to date. When I run outlook for the first time and try to set up an
MS exchange account, i get as far as the "Check Name" part of the setup.
the process never finsihes. I'm connected through the network card with a
clear line to the exchange server. Windows firewall service is disabled.
Also, if I end outlook.exe in task manager and go back in, it opens outlook
and hangs at the Outlook splash screen. I can open outlook on any other
computer to access the same mailbox with no problems. We are connecting to
an exchange 2003 server. if outlook is setup in Pop3 mode everything works
fine. it's only when we log into the exchange outlook profile. i've
created a new windows profile for that user and tried to log into exchange
and still the same problem. I've started outlook with the "/safe" switch
and still same problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated? this is the only laptop that is
having this problem in our company.
thanks.

Hector

Does this reproduce for other users with separate Windows User Profiles on
this laptop?

Are you logging into the domain as the same user that you are trying to
access mail for?

If this is the only machine you may want to try a repair of Office 2003.

Hope this helps.

When i log in as administrator, i can get it to not lockup up by running the
outlook /safe. but when i exit the outlook icon gets stuck on the system
tray and it says outlook is not responding.

Yes, we are logging into the domain with the correct profile for the outlook
user.

I have done a repair on office, i have removed office remove the office
directories and resintalled office again. same problem. i even downloaded
the resource kit and ran the Removal Wizard.

Is there somewhere in the registry or something that we can look to see if
there is a program/pluging loading or is there a logging mode for outlook?
any other sugguestiongs?
thanks.

Hector,
I have the similar problem you having.
I look for some posts in many newsgroup, in this newsgroup, I find the following, I think it is very helpful.
I fixed this issue by using exmerge and deleting the account in question.
Recreated and imported the pst. No issues now.

This is the only account on the system that does this. I have tried this from
multiple computers with different versions of Office, does the same thing. I
have to ctrl-alt-del to exit Outlook. It does not hang using OWA. Please
help, I thank you very much in advance for any help.

David,
a pst file is just a file where outlook stores emails when you don't have exchange. the exmerge utility simply exports emails to a pst file. once you have a pst file you can use outlook to open the file and have access to emails.
unfortunately, this doesn't help my problem cause the users' email box is new, it was never been logged into before this problem and i can acess it from other stations. only one station is having the problem. with all mailboxes.
