I have Exchange 5.5 in a 2000 domain, do I need ADC?

I recently inherited an Exchange 5.5 site consisting of one 5.5 enterprise
server and one 5.5 standard as our frontend OWA server. They are both running
on Windows 2000 server. We also have ADC setup.
Is the ADC needed? I thought Exchange would be able to still add users to a
2000 domain alone. Is ADC needed for everyday Exchange 5.5 management?

Yes, because Exchange 5.x isn't AD aware.

Lanwench can you please elaborate, as to now I'm getting conflicting replies.
What does 5.5 need to be AD aware of?
