I have read that Microsoft is discontinuing the pop3 connection to exchange
for security reasons. And after I update exchange the pop3 connection is
supposed to be disabled.
What are we supposed to use to connect to exchange with then? I have several
users connecting with Palsm and need to keep them working.

Any help would be greatly appericated.

POP3 and IMAP4 is disabled by default on a new install of Exchange 2003,
but it is easily set to enable. POP3 is far too popular a protocol to
just drop support for it, so I don't think this is necessarily true. Do
you have any sources to point toward this?

Below is what I have found in forms at
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=154&g=posts&t=103 The
artical really dose not explane the what the persons below says, But i
cannot find anything in either direction. But I do know that pop3 dose not
work after SP1 for exchange.

If you have install exchange 2003 service pack 1 on your sbs 2003, the users
cannot do pop3 anymore to your exchange server, since for security reasons
Microsoft remove them from the group that can log in locally to your sbs
2003 server. I have to remind you that when you connect to your SBS with
pop3 you send your login and password in clear text which is the same as
your login.

I cannot see the first link without creating an account on that site,
which I'm not going to do right now ;)

I've installed Exchange 2003 SP 1 on many servers and we still have
POP3/IMAP running just fine. If you're using POP3 or IMAP with basic
authentication, encrypted communications is definitely recommended
because, as you say, the credentials are sent in clear text (which is
true)...

I have also installed Exchange SP1 on all the SBS2003 servers I look after
and POP3 still works fine (I do use secure POP3 on port 995) and also IMAP
(though only locally on the server for that one).

If this were the case that POP3 wasn't to be supported anymore, then you
could buy GFI Mail Essentials (or similar) and get the POP3 downloader there
which would also give you AntiSPAM and Disclaimers as well.
