Emails get stuck... Need to pull to get them! |
|
|
As weird as it sounds, this is a problem that manifested itself in the last
3-4 months. I connect to Exchange 2000 through Outlook 2002 in our corporate
network which is 100 Mbps network.
When an email arrives in my email account it should just pop up in my Inbox.
I have to switch between Inbox and Calendar or Tasks or Contacts, etc. to
pull my emails. When I switch back and forth, my emails pop up in my Inbox.
If I'm in a meeting, I'm away from my computer for a while. When I check my
Inbox, I see nothing. I do the trick and all of a sudden, they pop up in my
Inbox. It's like they get stuck in the pipe. This could be more of an
Outlook issue than an Exchange one. Has anyone experience anything like
this? If so, what do I need to do to fix it so my computer will behave the
way it used to.
Thanks,
Sam

It's not Outlook, it's not Exchange - it's Windows or networking, most
likely. Do you have a firewall installed/configured on your workstation? Or
are you on a switch with VLANs? Or behind any hardware firewall? Exchange is
trying to send the UDP packets to your computer to notify it of new
messages, & the traffic is getting blocked for some reason. |

Hi,
My answer is yes to your questions about firewall, switch w/ VLANs... My
built-in XP firewall was on too (I don't know why).. Do you think that could
be the reason?

Yes. Disable it and see. If that doesn't work, talk to whomever runs your
network about the VLAN config.
