Incoming Smtp connectivity |
|
|
We have installed a Cisco PIX 501 firewall and changed to a public IP.
Static IP's and access rules have been set up. There are 4 2003 servers with
one running DNS.
We have lost our incoming connectivity.
DNSLint run with the /c show no resonse from SMTP, POP, or IMAP
Thanks in advance;
Mark

Did you open up TCP port 25 for SMTP and forward it to the correct private
IP on your LAN (for whatever server is meant to receive it)?
POP is 110 - IMAP 143 - same with them, if you really need them. |

Port 25 was opened by Cisco. When I Telnet to localhost port 25 on the
Exchange server, all I get is a blank DOS box. If I use any key, Telnet
closes and I'm back at the command prompt. Is this normal?

No...did you disable MailGuard? If not, do it now...and test. Leave it
disabled if this does turn out to be the problem.

I didn't think that was normal, but just wanted to rule out that I had not
damaged the SMTP communications. I did disable mailGaurd and it has not
helped.
Cisco suggested that we do what is in the following link, but it appears to
only apply to NT servers. We do not have an external and internal Exchange
server howerver. Is there any validity to it in our case?
