I need to move Exchange 2003 to a new server. I plan to install Exch2003 to
a new server, move the data to the new server then remove Exch2003 from the
old server.
Is it possible for both installations to co-exist running in the same
active directory domain? What kind of unforseen problem can I expect during
the installation?

Thanks,

David

yes they can co-exist as long as the server names are different (obviously)
are either of them a DC? you will have a couple extra steps if so
if not, then you can bring the new one on, move all mailboxes over, remove
exchange from the old box and you should be good to go

Yes, both of the servers are DC.

now that i think about it, if you are just removing exchange from the old
server but leaving it up as a DC then you won't need to worry about
anything. i misread it at first thinking the old server was going away,
which, you might need to change fsmo roles but if you are leaving the server
up as a DC then there is nothing to worry about there
