I finally got OWA working thanks to Dana and Michael. But now when I try to
use Outlook to connect to the exchange server locally it will not connect.
In the Exchange server settings dialog box it will only accept the local IP
address then when i click check name it replaces it with the correct domain
name but when I open outlook it will not connect. How can OWA work but not
Exchange?

OWA is actually linked into both the domain and exchange. It verifies your
domain ID first and then normally will ask for your exchange alias of which
it then searches for and hopefully finds. First question would be do other
systems now also have the issue of not being able to resolve the exchange
server name and alias? This sort of sounds like a netbios type of issue or
something with RPC. I would though make sure name resolution is working
correctly on your network as this really sounds like what may be going on.

No clients can resolve the Exchange Server name locally using Outlook. How
do I check name resolution to make sure it is working on the network? I
would appreciate as much detail as you can give me.
Thanks a million for your help!

Open a commend prompt and type "ping server-name.domain-name.domain-suffix"
and see if returns an IP address. If you use a private subnet internally it
should resolve to that address. If it returns the Public IP on your internal
domain then your problem is you have no DNS zone to resolve your internal
addresses.

Hope that helps,
Michael

I'm not an expert, but check the users in "AD Users and Computers". Is
there a local address for each user, like username@domainname.local as well
as an internet address

Just a thought.
