Hello,

Since the SRS and Exchange Event are not supported on a cluster, can I run
these services on a Front End server. I am going to implement a Front End
server for RPC/HTTP, and OWA. I read article 313646, but it did not really
address the SRS. Does everyone that has an Exchange 2003 cluster have
another Exchange box just for SRS??? Thank you for your help in advanced.

Yes, I have done this before. Install the SRS machine first, then the
cluster.

Cheers,

Rod said he has done it, but I have failed when I have tried it. Hmm, then
again, I might be thinking about the RUS.

Your closed head injury is getting in the way again, that was the RUS Russ.
And that was an AD issue, remember the 18 hour support call to PSS?

Alright thanks guys. One more question?? Im installatin the ADC, and run
the dsorgcheck and noticed that the exch 55 organization has an invalid
character. Can I just change this on the fly with out affecting users? Also
I need to migrate from 5.5 single server to this cluster. I was going to
install ADC, and Exchange on an interim exch 2003 server. Then in a month
move the mailboxes to the cluster. Any beeter approach that you all see?
thanx.

Let me rephrase. I have an exch 55 single server. We want to move to 2003
cluster. I have two options. upgrade the 5.5 server to windows
2000/exchange 2000, and move mailbox to interim server, or simply migrate to
interim server using ADC. If I upgrade, can I still create the first 2003
server in the org before the upgrade. I would like to go ahead and build the
cluster before the upgrade ( or migration) Any ideas. My concern is if I
say.. load exch 2k3 on the interim server, when I upgrade the 55 server to
2000, it will be in a different site/org. will this be the case?

No, you can't change the org name.

1. Install your first 2k3 server in the 5.5 org
2. Configure your ADC, SRS, etc
3. Build your cluster in the 5.5 org
4. Move mailboxes to the cluster

Russ,

I just changed the organization display name. It does not seem to affect
anything. There is going to be a period of about a month before we can
migrate to the cluster. The 5.5 server is crashing everyday, and the
customer needs to be off of it ASAP. Here is my plan.

1. Install ADC
2. Install Exchange 2k3 in 5.5 site
3. Migrate to Exch 2k3
4. After clients updated, remove 5.5 and switch to native exchange mode
5. build cluster in 2k3 site
6. move mailbox to cluster
7. remove interim 2k3 server
8. implement front end server

i know it is a few extra steps but they need off 5.5 ASAP. Thanks.

I think so. By the time I implement the Front End server the SRS will not be
needed. Thanks man. By the way, could you help me with the acronyms by the
user names (mct, msft, mvp, etc..)?
