All,
I recently brought up the first machine in an Exchange 2003/Windows 2003
cluster. I did this before updating my server with the lates patches.
Everything worked fine until I installed the patches, then suddenly the
cluster administrator would not connect to the cluster by name without
error, but only by "." Here is the error:

Access is denied
Error ID: 5 (00000005)

To me this is unacceptable, so I called support, and wasn't able to get an
answer there so that's when stuff REALLY started to suck. But I have a main
question, and some supplimental questions. My first question is that now I
need to manually remove that Exchange server from the Org. Anyone know of
some good tips/advice for that? I was just thinking of deleting it from
ESM, and attempting to delete the resources from the cluster (I haven't done
that yet because I was hoping to get it to remove normally).

Supplimental Question 1: Anyone ever run into the error above? Did you fix
it?

I thought there was another question too, but I don't remember now.
Thanks,
Pair

I don't know if this will help, but, when I haven't been able to connect to
the cluster using the virtual name, I was able to connect to it using the
name of one of the servers in the cluster.

I am not sure whaty happens but apparently this refreshed the pointers on
the machine connecting to the cluster. Once I did this I was then able to
connect to it using the virtual name.
