HOWTO: Disable OWA on a 2003 Exchange Cluster? |
|
|
What is the best way to disable OWA on a 2003 Exchange Cluster
Asked this question in the exchange.design forum it was told to me to
disable the HTTP Virtual Server. So what is the best way to do this as the
Exchange HTTP Virtual Server is in the Cluster Administrator. Taking it
offline give the cluster administrator a RED SPAT indicating error.
Looking to disable and maybe enable at a later date
Thanks for your help in advance,

Another option is to disable the "Outlook Web Access" for the Users on the
Clustered Exchange server in Active Directory Users and Computers
Go to the User
Properties
Exchange Features Tab
Then Disable "Outlook Web Access"
Hope this helps.

hi billb!
you can go to the iis admin console and on the exchange virtual directory,
set the allowed ipīs to access that virtual sub dir to 127.0.0.1. so there
is no way to access the url, only from the local server. and there is no
"red sign" ,-)

Just to add a side note... (and maybe there is a solution)...
When I disabled OWA on the back-end (clustered) boxes the front-end OWA
ceased to function.

Used IIS admin to allow only 127.0.0.1 to only access exchange virtual
directory (OWA)
It did disable the backend, but as mentioned below it als disabled the front
end which was not touched.
Does anyone know the reason for this??
Thanks in advance,

Because the front-end is just a proxy for the client to the back-end. OWA
in an FE/BE config requires both the FE and BE server. If you disable OWA
on the back-end, you prevent the front-end from proxying client requests to
it. There is no way to disable OWA on the BE and have it still function on
the FE.
Hope this helps.
