I am setting up a cluster to take over for our 2 exchange 2003 servers. I
was wondering if anyone had any links that would be helpful. I am very new
to both clustering and exchange and any helpful links would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi Todd,

For details on how to deploy Exchange into a cluster,
please see

Excellent article Scott, I would also add
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=96f76ed7-9634-4300-9159-89638f4b4ef7&displaylang=en.
It's a great primer on how to build the cluster, since you ADD Exchange to
one :)

Lastly, here is some great background information on clusters -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/overview/clustering.mspx
and
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/clustering/sercsfaq.mspx.

Cheers,

Rod

Hello Gentlemen,

Thank you for your help. These articles will definitely help get me up to
speed on the entire process. I have been searching for a bit on some kind
of procedure to get the mailboxes and other data from the 2 standalones to
the cluster. Does anybody have any suggestions. I was going to do a backup
and dump them onto the cluster, but then I read that if the server names are
different that would not work. I then thought about joining the cluster to
the current exchange org and then replicating the public folders over and
doing a mailbox move, then removing exchange from the old servers. Does
anybody have any advice, suggestions, and or links that may help with this.
I greatly appreciate all of your help.

Basically your last thought is the way you want to go. Build the cluster
and when you get to Exchange, join your existing Exchange org, then move the
mailboxes/PFs/etc., to the new server. Once that is done, decommission the
old server.

Not sure if this was mentioned in the links that you all posted, but there
is a process for decomissioning the first Exchange server. Be sure to
complete that thoroughly, and if you run into problems I recommend calling
support. I tried doing it on my own once, and thought I did it correctly,
but found out that I didn't when I called MS Support to be sure.

Thanks,
Pair
