Two Node Exchange Cluster - keeps losing heartbeat |
|
|
We have two identical Dell PowerEdge Exchange Servers with identical
hardware configuration.
Periodically, we notice it keeps losing the "heartbeat" and therefore the
Exchange active Node fails over. (not cleanly too).
Any ideas? What to look for or other areas to watch? Why is this happening
when no issues of hardware or bandwidth is showing to be the problem?

Have you checked your heartbeat NIC speeds to make sure they are not set to
AUTO? Both NICs in a cluster should be hard set to 10 or 100, but not AUTO.
This is a common problem that can lead to what you are describing.

Do you have multiple network cards? If so, is cluster configured to forward
packets over the public LAN? If not, you should so you can avoid a single
point of failure.
Another thing to check is the NIC drivers. I had a similar issue with
Broadcom NICs which was resolved by updating drivers.
