Creating an e-mail account |
|
|
I apologize for asking what must be an easy question. I am administering an
exchange 2000 server, and am having a difficult time adding an e-mail account
to an active directory user. If i go about creating a user from scratch I get
a window that appears asking me to fill in the appropriate information to
create an exchange account. However I am creating the user using the copy
user tool, and i don't get the dialogue. How can i go about adding an e-mail
address. I assumed if I right clicked on the user it would be listed under
exchange tasks but it isn't. It only lists 'enable instant messaging support'

If you double-click the new account, does it have an email address tab,
exchange general tab, etc? If you copy a known good mailbox-enabled user in
ADUC (right-click, copy) does it work? |

I do get the general tab, but not the address tab, this is confusing me as
well. I thought maybe I was out of CAL's for something but when i create a
temp user to test without using the copy i get the option. I may have created
the copy account on a different domain controller then the one running
exchange could that be a problem. The account I copied does have an
associated exchange address.
Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

Yes, that is probably it entirely. If you haven't installed Exchange System
Manager on that machine, you won't see any Exchange info - install ESM from
your Exchange CD. Or just create/edit Exchange stuff on the Exchange server.

I am now looking at it from the actuall exchange server. I still don't see
the address tab, just the exchange general and exchange features and the
exchanged advanced... Any idea how I can add an e-mail account to this user,
Thanks in advance.

Right-click on it and see what options you get. Can you mailbox-enable it?
If you try to reproduce this problem on the Exchange server itself, can you?
