Exchange 2003 performance on disk-array |
|
|
I am about to purchase two 4 Proc 6650 Dell, 6GB to cluster Win2003 Ent +
Exch2003 Ent.
Total number of mailboxes=2,200 growth in 3 years=300 mailboxes
Exchange db size = 55GB
Currently I have about 90MB/mailbox.
I will use a disk-array Dell PV220 for this, disks=73GB each, 15KRPM.
Question here:
Do you think I have any chance to run into performane issues using the disk
array ? Should I necessarily buy a SAN for this instead ?

The array should work, but I would certainly review this document before
getting too far into it though:

Thanks Colby. The only thing that I disagree with in this article is related
to SAN minimized management overhead when compared to SCSI disks;my
organization is mid size and management decided to purchase a high end SAN -
it has been tough on me when it comes to management overhead. Too many parts
to break there and I think a SAN should work for a structured IT department
and when a staff member is dedicated to manage it. In my case I have to
manage several systems and I don't have time dedicated to take care of the
SAN system...
Thanks much for your information,

I would agree with that. For your size organization, this would probably be
easier to maintain a SCSI disk array. Anyway, it was my pleasure to help
you out. Good luck!

Colby

Quad proc with 6GB for 2500 users max ?
This machines are sized to host 6000 users, what a waste of money =P !
You should rather go to Bi-proc Hyperthreaded with 2GB, that'd suffice.
And don't buy Dell servers, they're not good, I saw so many troubles with
Broadcom drivers, eww.
