rpc over http and mobile info server - Enterprise edition? |
|
|
I'm thinking of upgrading our exchange 2003 standard edition email system
and windows server 2003 standard edition both to ENTERPRISE level
BUT I NEED THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONALITY:
RPC OVER HTTP
Mobile information server which i believe is now built into Windows Server
(or exchange) (We're syncing pocket pc's over the web)
Something tells me that one of these technologies does not work in the
Enterprise edition but does work in the standard edition.
Have i lost my mind on this???

Yes, you have lost your mind.
RPC over HTTPS and ActiveSync work beautifully in both Exchange 2003
Standard and Enterprise editions.
Any reason you're planning on upgrading either product to Enterprise?
I can understand an upgrade to Exchange Enterprise to take advantage
of multiple stores, but Windows Standard has the capacity for all the
memory you'd need and you can't cluster a box that's already in use. |

Well I'm thinking more so to upgrade to windows 2003 server enterprise for
Terminal Services. We currently have 2 windows 2000 server CITRIX boxes
running... and i want to upgrade them. My understanding is that windows
2003 standard edition can only handle 4gb of ram... and Windows 2003
ENTERPRISE can handle much more ram. I'm thinking of using a dual processor
with 8gb of ram to handle 25 clients on a terminal services win2003 server
box.
Thanks for your help!

Buy another server to run Citrix. I don't recall if this was
addressed, but if you install Outlook on the server it may overwrite
one of the DLL's that Exchange needs to function properly.
