ExBPA - Issues Information Link to Bad URLs |
|
|
I am using ExBPA version 1.1.7468.0 with Configuration file version 1.6.3.7.
After successful scanning of my Ex2K Server, when I click on any of the
resulting discovered issues links ("Tell me more about this issue and how to
resolve it"), I am taken to invalid URLs.
In IE the error message is: - HTTP 400 - Bad Request
in Firefox the message is: - Bad Request (Invalid URL)
We installed ExPBA on another PC and were able to reproduce the problem.
This did not occur on an earlier version of the tool. Are you able to help?
Many thanks.

Hi Andrew,
Can you give me an example of a URL that is failing for you?

Both of those worked for me. If you try to access those URLs outside of
ExBPA, are you able to on the same machines running ExBPA?

No. I also remoted into a couple of different machines off our network
(neither has ExBPA installed), pasted in the URL and got the same negative
results.

These URLs work for me too, however, I've noticed that you have some rogue
%09's in the URL. My version of IE configuration handle these okay, but I'm
wondering if your IE version/config is having issues. Andrew, does this URL
work for you?
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/Exchange/ExBPA/4a057fc7-fbaf-4863-9675-318d5d0139f0.mspx
(this is the same URL as you quoted, but with the rogue %09 removed.

That worked fine - thank you. I reset my XP machine to use IE as the default
browser rather than Firefox and tried again w/ ExBPA. It worked fine and did
not inject the rogue %09's in the URLs. I'll have to have give those naughty
people at the Mozilla Organisation a stiff talking to.. :)
By the way - I like the ExBPA tool, thanks - great stuff.

One more thing. Do you know what the "%90" characters do? It seems that
ExBPA generates these and they are handled OK by IE - effectively being
stripped out by the browser. However they are not stripped out by Firefox.

Hi Andrew,
See this previous post (pasted below). When you click a link in the ExBPA
tool, it goes to a fwlink on microsoft.com which then redirects to the
Exchange TechCenter.
<snip>
The previous version of ExBPA launched the browser by getting the name of
the default browser from the registry and tacking on the default parameters
(also in the registry) and then adding the url. This method had problems
with some 3rd party browsers (Maxthlon for instance) so I looked for a more
generic way of doing this. Running url.dll directly is the method I found,
and now this appears to introduce a problem with Firefox. Sorry about that.

Hello Jon,
I believe I have found the problem. In IE this url works:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=30939&l=en&v=ExBPA.1&id=2582b127-b826-4eac-88b6-47a79ed49c6d
With Firefox the url does not, and it does introduce the %09
I guess there is some browser sniffing code in the url jump script (go.)
which is introducing this.
What is strange however is that these links did work in the previous
version
of ExBPA

Hi Andrew,
I asked our web team to investigate the rogue %09 issue with Firefox
browsers. They've taken a look at the redirector logic and believe that
they've spotted the problem. They plan to get this fixed up by end of the
week.
Thanks for reporting the issue!
