Offline Defrag |
|
|
I did an offline defrag this past weekend. It left a very large file behind
"TEMPDFRG5608.STM"
Can I delete it? I was able to recover almost 2GB of space.

Hi Andy,
Did the offline defrag complete successfully and is the store mounted again?
If so, we should be able to safely remove the temp .stm file. Do you recall
the exact syntax that was run (with switches) for the defrag?
When we run an offline defrag we build a new temporary database, when the
defrag is complete, this temporary database will overwrite your existing
production database and the temporary database will be deleted.
It sounds like the final step in the defrag (deleting the db) was
interrupted or we added a switch to the offline defrag command to not delete
the temporary database (eseutil /d /p).

Hope this helps!

Yes, it was successful. We did have one instance where it failed because it
was writing the temp file (I'm guessing this one) to the c:\ and it ran out
of room. We were eventually able to redirect it to a different drive with a
lot of space. It could be that that file is left over from the failed
attempt.
The syntax that finally worked was
eseutil /d h:\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv.edb /th:\folder1\temp1.edb
Thanks for your help.
