Exchange usage for a small business |
|
|
A few quick design questions..
We have only 3 or 4 Exchange users and would like to maintain a common
calendar and addressbook for company use and seperate ones for personal
use. Additionally, we plan to use our Macs while in the office and our
Blackberries for while we're onsite. What would be the best way to
implement this?
Using a GAL for the all the people the company will email (sorting into
Suppliers, Clients, Associates)?
Using a shared Address Book inside a Public Folder?
Or creating a seperate Address Book and then sharing it?
And for the Calendar as well... We could use a Public Folder or share
an Address Book between the users.. but which way is the preferred way?
Does it make a difference in implementation when using a Mac or a
Blackberry?

Your choice of email client will have a lot to do with this, given that
you're mac-based. Which one do you intend to use, or are you flexible on
that point?

The latest version of Entourage seems to fix some of the problems with
Exchange, but I do know it still doesn't completely support Exchange.
Notes and tasks, for example, aren't synced to Exchange. There used to be
problems getting Entourage to use shared calendars, and while they say it
has been fixed in the lastest revision I've not tested it myself.
As annoying as it is to have an MS mail client that doesn't fully support
an MS Mail Server, I do think Entourage is the best solution for Exchange.
I have more and more mac-based customers myself, so I'll take a look at
doing what you're talking about later today and let you know what I find.

I dont know about the entourage part, but I would certainly recommend using
the GAL for global contacts. Blackberry users can search the gal when
composing messages, whereas they may not be able to search or use shared
address books or public folders. |
