is there a way to modify the EHLO/HELO reply from an Exchange 5.5 server?
Our server is including it's own hostname and the internal domain name in
the reply, we don't want that for obvious reasons. thanks for any input.

sure.

Change the hostname and domainname in TCP/IP settings.
when doing this the machine would have different netbios and hostname.
