Remove Exchange 5.5 Server from Exchange 2003 ESM |
|
|
Hi,
We have a simple nework with 1 exhange box. We migrated from 5.5 to E2k3
successfully and put Exchange on a different box. Followed all the MS
documentation in decomissioning the old 5.5 server. So we know Exchange 5.5
is no longer running. But the old server that was running 5.5 still appears
in ESM on the Exchange 2003 box. This even after I installed 5.5
administrator console on the E2k3 box and deleted the server from that
console. After I rebooted its still there. I want to move from mixed to
native mode but this is preventing me from doing that.
What am I not doing correctly?

Have you tried removing the 5.5 Server from the Domain? This is assuming
there aren't any other required services running.

Jonathan -
I removed the old Exchange 5.5 from the domain waited a couple hour's,
stopped and restarted the Exchange services on Exchange 2003 and the old
exchange 5.5 server still appears in the ESM on 2k3.
Any ideas??

Also take note on the Config_ca. If you still have ADC running you may want
to remove that first. Chances are you still have some ADC Connection
Agreement operational.

Before you start ADSI I would follow these instructions, if you haven't already
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822450/en-us
ADSI is if all else fails.

Thank you very much Jonathan. It worked. I used adsi, the old exchange 5.5
server was removed and I was able to move from mixed to native. We are good
to go now.
Thank you.
