exchange 2003 install |

We currently have an exchange 5.5 server that we are going to migrate over to
exchange 2003. My question is along with this new exchange 2003 server we
would like to add a second server. This second server will be part of a
different domain. I believe we will have to setup a trust between the 2
domains but what else would need to be done. Do we just need the same site
and organization names and then the 2 exchange servers can replicate or is
there other steps? Please help.

the servers are in 2 different forests. So this would be 2 different
exchange servers in 2 different domains and forests. We would have to trust
the forests, correct? What we are trying accomplish is to have the servers
replicate(share information) so if one becomes unavailable, we could point
the users to the other one.

If the other domain is in the same AD Forest, there's no need to setup
explicit trusts - by default domains in the same Forest trust each other.
You could set up the other Exchange box in any Domain in the Forest.
Only a single Exchange Organization can exist in one AD Forest.
The Site functionality - which was an Administrative as well as Message
Routing boundary in 5.5 - has been replaced with Administrative Groups and

Setting up another Forest to be used as a Resource Forest purely for
Disaster Recovery the way you've described sounds complicated to me.
Have you looked at clustering or simply having standby servers (with same
config)? Or even third-party products that replicate Exchange databases like
DoubleTake? If you're in a SAN/NAS implementation, you could also look at
the replication/high-avail. solutions from your SAN vendors - EMC and NetApp
have solutions for this.

our parent company wants to do it this way. My company already has our own
AD environment setup. The other company has there own setup. We wanted to
configure just the exchange servers to replicate information. How do we do
this?
