Server 2003 Setup |
|
|
Hi,
I recently been asked to try Exchange 2003 enterprise server and see if it
is better in security and performance than NT server.
My prblem is now that I can't install 2003 server unless I'm on a domain,it
keep asking me that this computer n't in a domain, yes that true it is in a
workgroup, bottom line I 'm trying to install 2003 server which is trail
software on 4 PCs runining XP pro and Wins 98SE,is there a way to install the
2003 and make it to believe the workgroup is on a domain if n't is there
trusted domain to join and try this trail, because I would like to give the
clear and honest verdict to the company Manager to go a head or n't.
as I can't connect to the company domain for security reason.
Thanks in advance
Nas

Exchange 2003 must be setup in an AD domain not just an NT domain.
Since you said that you can't join it to your company domain then your
only option would be to install the W2K3 or W2K2 server software again
and create your own domain. I advise you do this on a seperate network
so you don't piss off your Admin on your working network. Then you can
install Exchange 2003. |

At this point the easiest justification for going to Windows Server 2003 is
the fact that NT 4.0 is no longer supported by MS.
You will need to setup a W2K3 server with AD to test Exchange 2003. You can
set a trust relationship between AD and the NT domain.
