Redundant outbound SMTP connections |
|
|
Hi All,
I have 2 Exch2k3SP1 sites, 100 miles away from eachother. Each belongs to
seperate routing group w/routing connectors. Each has their own SMTP
connector (namespace is "*" and scope is Routing Group for both) for SMTP
mail. I'd like to have each site failover smtp outbound mail to the other in
the event of an Internet outage at either site.
I think I need to do this: Set up a new SMTP connector in each routing group
that has a scope of "Organization", and add the SMTP virtual server from the
other routing group - then assign a higher cost to the "*" namespace.
Therefore it'll failover to the other smtp connector if it's assigned one
doesn't connect up?
Any help or advice woul be well appreciated!
Thanks,
Jeff

You could change the existing SMTP Connectors' scope to Org, or create
another SMTP Connector in each RG with a higher cost and scope = entire Org.
You can only select BH from the same RG in which the Connector resides.

Thanks for the help!
I think my best option is to create another SMTP Connector in each RG with a
higher cost and scope = entire Org.
To assign the higher cost, do I do that on the namespace tab? That's the
only place I see how to do it. Do I need to then set the connector to fwd
mail to a SmartHost (the IP address of the SMTP server in the other site)?
Thanks,
Jeff

Yes, on namespace tab - you also specify scope (Org/Routing Group) on that
tab.
