Where is the setting in Exchange 2000 to suspend large email |
|
|
Hi.
I have heard there is a setting in Exchange 2000 to suspend large
emails until out of office hours (to preserve bandwidth), where is it?
Thanks.

Just curious Ben,
How do you know he doesn't already have one? Where in his message
did he say anything about having or not having an SMTP connector set up???
Really IRKs me when people don't listen, don't read, and worse....don't
answer a direct question.
King, give me a second, I'll respond to your question.

King,
If you open your Exchange System Manager, then go to the SMTP Connector
(follow the tree below) and right-click on it. Click properties, then go to
the Delivery Options page.
On that page, you can check the option to "Use different delivery times for
oversized messages"

Hey, not a problem my friend. My apologies for the attitude with the other
guy. I kinda figured you did have an SMTP connector, or you wouldn't have
been asking about it. I just don't understand people that can't answer a
direct question.
Anyways, have a great day!

Actually, it does. Maybe you should have the same attitude, you'd be able
to help more people, and a little more effectively I might add. If you read
KingCronos' reply, you'll see that I had no problem answering his question.
Of course, you avoided my question as well.
Have a GREAT day!

Thanks a lot my friend. Just what I was looking for and so quick too!
And yes I do have an SMTP connector.
Thanks. |

there are lots of people who ask questions similar to this on, in this NG,
and do not understand that an SMTP connector is required for this type of
configuration...

Re: Where is the setting in Exchange 2000 to suspend large e |

Ok, so that means that everyone that asks a question like that doesn't have
an SMTP Connector?
Regardless of whether he had an SMTP Connector or not, he asked a simple
question. "Where is the setting?" What is the problem with just answering
it? There was absolutely no need for Ben, or anyone else, to just ignore
his question because they assume he doesn't have an SMTP Connector on the
premise that most people that ask a similar question don't have one.
I presume that Ben knew where the setting is, because he knew that an SMTP
Connector was needed to access the setting. So, my question is: Wouldn't
it have just been easier to answer the question with a direct answer versus
going through all this BS?
Now, I also see that Ben is an Exchange MVP. Is it normal practice amongst
Exchange MVPs to treat people with less knowledge of the Exchange system
like they are dummies?
Have a great day!

Re: Where is the setting in Exchange 2000 to suspend large e |

that's not what I meant, at all. Sometimes people are looking for such a
setting on an SMTP virtual server, and/or they do not have an smtp
connector. He was not ignoring the question, but directing the questioner
to the place to find the setting. And I don't see how Ben's answer was in
any way disparaging the intelligence of the person asking the
question...actually, I rather thought he was giving King credit for being
able to find that setting, once he was directed to the proper place. It's
right there on the "Delivery Options" tab...many times, a "short" answer is
given in these groups, just to point the person in the right direction. If
they have trouble with that answer, many times, a more in-depth answer is
forthcoming from the same person who gave the short/fast answer...

I understand where you are coming from Susan, but Ben's reply "You have to
create an SMTP Connector to have this option." tells me that he didn't
believe that KingCronos even had the smarts to have an SMTP Connector, let
alone be running an Exchange Server.
I try to read and re-read what I have written before I publish it. Ben's way
of answering that question was abrasive, to me anyways. Had I asked the
initial question, I would have been FLOORED reading his reply.
I guess it all just boils down to our own preference of wording. For a
short answer, I suppose I would have stated "It can be found in your SMTP
Connector"... then, if asked where the SMTP Connector is, direct them as
necessary.
I love discussions like this, don't you? lol
Have a great day!
