OWA using http |
|
|
I am experiencing a strange problem using OWA over "http". When we send new
messages using OWA (over http protocol) the message is not sent (it also
doesn't appear in the Sent Items or the Drafts folders) and OWA opens again
in a new window (so I end up with 2 instances of OWA running.) If I connect
using "https" protocol there is no problem at all.
Kindly advise what can be done to solve this problem.
Best regards.

OT, but if you've already set up SSL & HTTPS, close port 80 and use only
HTTPS. It's dangerous enough to allow that traffic into your network, let
alone port 80/http. |

Thanks for your reply. We can close port 80 and use OWA over https but do
you think is there a solution for the current problem we are facing when
accessing OWA over http/80?
Thanks.

Sorry, I'm not sure - what version of Exchange? Are you using SBS?
That said, since you really shouldn't leave port 80 open at all, I'm not
sure I'd worry about it that much.

I am using Exchange 2000 with SP3 on Windows 2000 Server (not SBS). The
reason we want http/80 is because OWA is extremely slow using https.
I appreciate your replies.

Yes - normal unless you have a hardware SSL accelerator, I think. However,
only the inital login should be slow - after that it should be fine. And I
still say that slow & encrypted is better than faster & clear text.

As far as I remember the Intel Pro 100/S NIC supports hardware offloading
of DES,3DES,MD5 and SHA1, and should thus be perfectly able to handle your
load. The price here in Norway is approx NOK 300, or some 50 USD. I have
however not configured one for hardware offloading of SSL or IPSec myself,
yet.
