Hello All,
I have a Win 2k3 SBS w/ Exchange 2K3. the client has Outlook 2K3 on the
desktop. Outlook is setup with 3 pop email accts. , and an Exchange acct (
for calendar only).
My internal domain is kgc.local my pop acct domain is kgeety.com

If I send an email with outlook with address kym@kgeety.com I receive an
NDR saying

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<kym@KGC.local>

(reason: 550 Host unknown)

----- Transcript of session follows ----- 550 5.1.2 <kym@KGC.local>... Host
unknown (Name server: kgc.local: host not

found)

I make sure to select the correct acct that I want the mail to be sent with,
it is even the default account.

Can someone explain to me what I am missing here? I don't want exchange to
try to send any email to the outside world, but it seems that's what's
trying to occur.

If I resend the message it goes to where it's supposed to

Any help is appreciated

Because you're using SBS, there's something you have to change on the server
to keep the POP accounts as the default accounts. I don't remember where you
change it - post in microsoft.public.windows.sbs.

Also, why not just host your own mail so you don't need to use the
inefficient method of checking POP accounts in your client?

Thanks for your time, and information.
Management wants to keep the email external. I haven't come up with the the
proper justification to have them do otherwise.

Thanks Again

It's really simple. You have your own mail server now & you really don't
need anyone else's - it's merely adding an additional layer of complexity
that is not needed. Try mentioning that your current configuration is slow,
inefficent, doesn't allow for a single point of entry/exit for mail for
antivirus/spam scanning, doesn't allow you to change passwords/create mail
accounts in the syntax you wish on the fly/without contacting the ISP/host,
doesn't allow you to use OWA, makes your admin tasks a lot more daunting
(such as dealing with the problem you have now) etc etc etc? This is just
silly. Ask them the reasons why they *don't* want to bring mail in-house.
