Alerting Without Outlook |
|
|
I searched the posts and could not find a good answer for this.
We are considering migrating to Exchange Server from GroupWise. GroupWise
has an application the runs outside of the email client the checks for new
messages on the server without having the client program open. From our
tests it seems that either Outlook has to open or minimised to be alerted of
new messages.
Is there any way to be notified of messages without having Outlook open?
(All of our testing is on 2003 products.)

You are correct, Outlook would need to be running for our New Mail
Notification to work in Online Mode, or Polling in Cached Mode.
You could use OWA and then all you would have running is IE and it host a
feature that would Alert you to new mail with a Toaster pop up.
Either way you would have to have Outlook or Internet Explorer running.
Let me know if this helps

Are there any good third party tools that would make this possible?

Not that I know of, but then maybe you should re-post this question to the
alias in case other's on the newsgroups are aware of one.
