HELP !!!!! 1 Exchange server with 3 separate forests |
|
|
Hi there !
I've got several questions :
1_ I have 3 different AD forests, with no link between them. I have to
install an Exchange Server that could be used by all users located in the 3
forests. I think it is not possible, but is it ?
2_ What if I decide to create a "top forest" above the 3 existing forests,
and create a forest trust between all 3 forests and this new one ? If I put
an Echange Server in the top forest, will it be able to serve all users in
the 3 forests ?
3_ If the case in question 2 is possible, how could I do that ? The main
problem is that these 3 forests belong to separate companies, with no link to
each other, AND THEY DON'T WANT ANY !!!!!! So if I create a forest trust
between all 3, will it need to be bi-directional and transitive for Exchange
to work properly ? Will users from one forest be able to view or access the
ressources of the other forests ? How could I avoid this, but still
maintaining forest trusts ?
Any clue is VERY appreciated, as I am in an emergency !!!!!
Thanks a lot for your help
Take care

Hello Xavier
Here are the answers to yuor questions:
1. Exchange 2000/2003 Server can be installed in a single AD Forest. It cannot span multiple forests.
2 & 3: You can have Exchange installed in one forest and have the user accounts live in another forest. This would need a trust being established between the forests. Add this will provide the ability to use resources in either Forest, provided the rights have been suitably assigned. To associate an Exchange 2000/2003 mailbox with a user account in another Domain, please see the following KB Article:
278888 How to associate an Exchange 2000 mailbox or an Exchange 2003 mailbox : http://support.microsoft.com/?id=278888
Hope this helps.
Thank you and best regards
