Two Exchange 2003 sites, 2 servers ?

have two sites and only two exchange 2003 servers

site 1
site2
How many servers I need to connect that two sites. curently I have one
server configured( SMTP VIRTUAL SERVER) to send and receive emails and it is
working fine.

Can I use that same server to connect to site B?

I tried everything but no luck.

Eventhough I setup routing group connector between site1 and site 2, all
emails from site1 still going through default SMTP VIRTUAL SERVER to site 2.

Default smtp server is setup on site 1 server to send email to internet to
smart host.

ANY HAS ANY IDEA?
