Exchange 5.5 migration to Exchange 2003 |
|
|
Hello all,
I'm currently in the process of testing an External Migration Path from
Exchange 5.5 to a separate Exchange 2003 Organization. I ran the ADMT ->
Migration Wizard with SidHistory followed by the Exchange Server Migration
Wizard. I then implemented the ADC using the recipient connection
agreement. Everything seems to be working fine. The exchange 2003 has the
correct smtp address the old x400, x500 and the new x400 and x500 address.
My problem is emailing between the systems. If I send an email from xchange
5.5 to a recipient it only arrives in the mailbox of the xchange 5.5, but
not the 2003 and vice versa. Isn't the ADT suppose to sync the mailboxes so
that the 2003 mailbox is updated or do I need to install some other
connector such as smtp, x.400, or some other connection like "Site
Replication Service". Thanks for any insight you may provide.

Once you migrate it, why would it go to more than one mailbox?
There is no mail data sync tools included. If you want that, you'll want to
look at third party tools like Qwest software.
You do however need a mail path between the two if co-existence is desired
during the migration itself.

I don't want two mailboxes, but my organization is too large to migrate in a
single day. When I migrate a mailbox from Exchange 5.5 to 2003 the mailbox
exists in both places. It doesn't delete the Exchange 5.5 mailboxes. How
do I get the users that are still on Exchange 5.5 (haven't been migrated
yet) to send to the users on Exchange 2003 (those that have been migrated)
and vice versa?

ADC interorg?
You may want to go back and read up on the migration toolset and process.
At a high level, in order to maintain the two ORG's during the migration,
you'll need to have a way to sync the directories and to send/receive mail
as well as to respond to existing mail appropriately. It all starts with
the directory however. If that's not up to speed, you'll not get what
you're after. After that, the routing of messages. Then worry about
migrating the data. As a last step, you do need to ensure that only one
mailbox exists between both orgs. I believe that's either a setting in ADMT
else something you have to do manually - can't remember which.
I mention the previous to ensure we're seeing the same thing. I'm assuming
you already knew all of that.
