Inter-Org migration |
|
|
Hi All,
Exch 5.5 -> Exch 2003
We are planning to do Inter-Org migration for 8000 mailboxes from 10 sites
to centralized servers.
Exchange 2003 servers will be located on their own resource domain in the
forest. All these sites where we are moving from mailboxes have their own
domain which will work as a account domain for the users. We can't do this
migration whit in one step so living side by side between exchange servers
is required.
We know that this kind of migration is possible with MS tools but we are
wondering if we using some third party tool like aelita could it give use
some benefits.
Experiences ??

Are there benefits? Of course, else they wouldn't have a business right?
But what types of benefits would be appealing to you? Better reporting?
Different technology?
Experience? It's a migration. There will be issues. Some of the third
party toolsets can make it easier to overcome them though. And it puts the
tools all in one place.

I'd say that MS tools are perfect for intra-org migrations, 3rd party tools
are useful when dealing with inter-org migrations, which are a bit more
complicated, but they are also very buggy most of time ^_^'

Aelita is now owned by Quest Software http://wm.quest.com and the EMW tool
(Exchange Migration Wizard) will fit your requirements.
As far as advantages go - how about the following :
Up front dir synch
Up front mail synch
users mailboxes switched to new server AUTOMATICALLY.
OST files preserved for laptop users
Users pretty much unaware of a migration taking place.
You definetly need to look at it.
