In terms of resource sharing between forests, is there an advantage in using
forest trust vs external trusts? Our forest has a single domain, and we are
going to connect to another forest with a single domain. We'd like to share
global address lists, calendars, etc.

Difference in how permissions are handled.

Have you read the docs located at http://www.microsoft.com/ad and
www.microsoft.com/exchange/library yet?
