RUS on Front-End or Back-End? |
|
|
Hi,
What's the best practice to place RUS service? should it be placed on F/E or
B/E servers? and may I know why one is better than another one? Can I have
your advise?
thanks

Put it on the BE server. The FE server is expendable (transient data) in
the scheme of things, while the BE servers tend to be larger (processing
power etc) and get more attention when something doesn't work.
FWIW, you really only need an Exchange server that has some extra cycles to
do this though. After the first run most runs will be a lot less intensive.
Depending on your configuration you could pick either and it would work.
Personally, I tend to pick the public folder server if separate.

It's a little more simple than that; RUS no longer runs on an FE server
since E2k SP2. See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=313646.

Yes that applies to Exchange 2k3 SP 1 as well (You can not run RUS on a 2003
FE Server).
