On my 3 of my Exchange 2003 servers, 1 Public Folder and 2 Mailbox, they are
all reporting that I should remove the /PAE switch which is not in the
Boot.ini file or anywhere. I do have the /3GB /USERVA=3030 switches in the
Boot.ini file, and we have 4 GB of RAM in each of these servers.

It iss also recommending I put in the MS04-032 security patch to correct a
potential Store crash issue on the above mentioned 3 servers, plus our 2 node
cluster. The patch has already been applied to all the servers and it's
still reporting the patch recommendation.

Thanks
Korbyn

Hi Korbyn,

In fact, with newer servers that support hot-add memory, PAE is
automatically enabled, even without the /PAE switch in the boot.ini. I
thoroughly recommend the use of the /NOPAE switch in boot.ini to forcibly
disable physical address extensions. The problem is that with PAE and /3GB
enabled, the Kernel can get really squeezed to the point where it might make
Exchange fail. Adding /NOPAE will do the trick.

Thanks!

Thank you. Greatly appreaciated... This is the first time I've ever heard
of the /NOPAE switch. I just googled it, and the MS article that mentions it
appears to have been updated Dec 14. I've gone through KB827281 before, plus
many other memory enhancement articles for Exchange 2000/2003 and this is the
very first time I've ever seen it mentioned.

Might I suggest the ExBPA be updated to point people to the updated article
instead of being told to remove /PAE

Hi Korbyn,

We do have a bug open to clarify this article in that respect. Thanks!
