Hello Everyone, I have a 2000 Domain with an Exchange Server 2003.

I am trying to create a new user in ADUC on the Exchange server. i have it
checked off that a mailbox should be created when the user is created.
After the user is created i go into the properties of that user and there
are no email addresses setup, and when I go into System Manager there is no
MB displayed in the server and Stroage Group. ??

When i go back into ADUC and select Exchange Tasks... it wants to MOVE the
MB as if it is already been created ?? But it is nowhere to be found? I
tried manually creating the email address but i still need a MB.
If i try to send and email i of course get errors stating that the email
recipient does not exist. the closest KB i have found regarding this issue
is here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;831605, but not sure if a
schema edit is nessesary? want to be sure. plus my situation doesn't fully
match the scenario in the KB. They are saying to go into Exchange tasks and
create the MB from there but mine does not have that option. It wants to
MOVE, DELETE. I have deleted it and then i can go back in... At that point
the option to create a MB IS there but i get the same results.. nothing.

Has anyone seen this b4?

I have had the exchange server 2003 since June of last year and I have
created users and thier MB's successfully till now.

Thanks
Tony

It sounds to me like you might have a problem with RUS, which is
responsible, amongst other things, for generating the email addresses based
on the recipient policy and for ensuring the mailbox enabled object is
visible in the GAL. Check to see whether RUS is running properly. You can
do this by increasing the logging for MSExchangeAL to medium or maximum.
For more detailed help with RUS, the following blog is very helpful.

http://blogs.msdn.com/exchange/articles/170331.aspx

A possible reason why you can't see the mailbox in ESM yet is that it is not
yet initialised (and hence not visible). This is normally done only when
the mailbox is accessed for the first time or by someone sending an email to
the user.

If you look at the user object using ADSIEdit or LDP you can see whether the
object is mailbox enabled by looking for the msExchHomeServerName attribute.
You can then tell whether RUS has touched the object by looking to see
whether the msExchALObjectVersion attribute has a value.

Thank-you for responding. Before doing any troubleshooting we went in and
restarted all MS Exchange services and it appears to be working fine now.

If the issue continues we will have to dig a little deeper into what you are
suggesting here.

Thanks again
