Service Accounts in Exchange 2003 |
|
|
I am using the Microsoft Press book “Implementing and Managing Microsoft
Exchange Server 2003” to study for the 70-284 exam. In chapter two there are
instructions on how to create a Service Account and then chapter three you
apply the new Service Account to all the Exchange services. When I do this
the Exchange Services do not start up and I receive an error.
I have researched the problem and what I have found is that Exchange 2003
uses a LocalSystem or machine account not a Service Account.
Is this correct? Does anyone have the correct instructions on creating a
Service Account that will work?
More importantly is this something I need to know for the exam.
Thank you for any help provided

There isn't a service account in 2000 or 2003 and I don't have the
book for 70-284 to validate what it says. Is it on the cdrom that you
can paste into word and mail over? |

Thank you for replying.
The pdf on the the included disk is protected so I can't post the relavant
sections.
In chapter 2 there is a sections called "Creating a Service Account" and
goes on to describe the benefits of using a different Service Account instead
of the default account. In the same chapter there is an exercise where you
create the Service Account and make it a member of the Domain Admin, Schema
Admin and Enterprise Admin groups.
In chapter 3 there is an exercise where you assign the Service Account you
created in chapter 2 to all of the "Exchange Services".
Do you know of a better book that I can use to study for the 70-284 exam?

There shouldn't actually be a better book than the MS Press one. What
about taking a print screen of the page in question? I can get it to
someone in MS, I have a candidate in my head already who would like
this one. |

I can't paste the screen print into this message. Is there an address where
I can send them to you?
