Hello,

Currently I we are migrating our mail farm from MS IIS 5.0 SMTP to MS
Exchange 2000. Looking at SMTP headers of mail passing through several
differenct mail relay nodes we notice the following differences in the
mail header:

Received: from mailhost.xxx.org ([xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]) by
tower6-patch4.mail.local with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713);

Mail passed by other nodes have an "Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service,
Version: 5.0.2195.6713" occurrence instead of "Microsoft
SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713)" in the mail header.

To create an automated script for indexing our mail relay paths (aka
IIS SMTP/Exchange) i want to ask if it reliable to filter on the mail
headers.

Does the "Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.6713"
occurrence always identify an MS Exchange relay?
Does the "SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713)" occurrence identify an ISS SMTP
relay?

Because the version numbers are identical it is not very clear how to
determine if a node uses IIS-SMTP or Exchange. Of course there are
other methods to obtain that information but that's out of question in
this situation.

Hope someone can help me with this one?

Thanks in advance,
