I currently have an Exchange Server 2K organization with 2 B/E servers and a
Excahnge 2K F/E server. I am adding a new domain to the forest with it's own
E2K3 server. I plan on accessing this new E2K3 server directly with OWA and
not going through the existing F/E server. Do I still need to upgrade the
F/E server to E2K3 or can Ileave it as is since I'm not going through it to
the new E2K3 server?

Thanks

RussG

If you're not going to use it to access a 2003 resource (any 2003 resource),
I can't think why you'd have to upgrade it yet.

Russ

The Microsoft recommend that you first upgrade your F.E. server and than
install/upgrade your B.E servers.

To install process is the same, extend the forest and prepare the domain
that will receive the e2k3.

True, they do recommend that. But perhaps it would be a good idea to know
why?
I mean, in this case he's not going to use the FE server to access 2003
resources. What would be the reason to follow the recommendation (note,
it's not an immutable law right? )

Curious.
