Underscore in domain name |
|
|
My local domain name contains an underscore. Email sent from my Exchange
2003 server contains the server name and local domain name in the format
servername.domain_name.local. At least one ISP mail server is rejecting
email from my server because of the underscore in the domain name.
Is it possible to present my server as belonging to a domain other than the
local domain (i.e. as the mail domain name). I have already tried putting
the mail domain name in the Masquerade Domain name field in the Virtual SMTP
server.

Change the fqdn from SMTP virtual server properties | Delivery | Advanced |
Fully-qualified domain name.
This will change the SMTP banner but Message-ID will still have old fqdn.

I'd suggest that you make sure all internal delivery (assuming you have
multiple servers) continues to work properly when you do this. Basically,
test, test again, and make sure you document this so somebody else (like
PSS) knows what's going on.

FYI - this only happens because the _ character is an illegal DNS character
(as defined in RFCs). You will probably find your internal sysvol shares
don't work well also!
