Will Exchange12 be supported on a Active/Active Windows 2003/R2 cluster,
rumor has this configuration will not be supported. Is there any truth to
this?

Thanks,

There is rumor to this affect, I heard as much last week at the Exchange
Connections conference. However, nothing is in stone until this gets fully
tested and E12 is closer to release. I think that the discussions that a/a
will be supported is due to some of the limitations in the store.exe and ESE
that cause problems for a/a in Exchange 2003 will be improved in E12. But
this far prior to the release of E12, it is really hard to see into a
crystal ball and say for sure. If you are planning hardware/software
purchases, you might want to budget for a/p clusters or a/a/p clusters. My
$0.02 worth.

The rumor I heard was it won't be support because it won't work!!!! Which
makes the support issue a mute point!

Who can I contact about this issue? Who is the project manager for
Exchange12?

Within the next year we will be replacing our hardware, that is why this is
important to us.

Exchange12 does not work in a cluster environment, is that the rumor?

I am sure there are limits to what they can tell you. I can say that I have
also heard this rumor that it will not be supported.

Exchange 12 will work in a clustered environment, just not Active/Active. If
you are buying new hardware, you also might want to steer away from SCSI
based systems, use iSCSI or Fiber.

Aren't rumors fun? NOT!

I just wish Microsoft would get some feedback from customers before making
their decision.

Our Active/Active has been a really good configuration for us.

Yes this rumor scares me because this might cost of a lot of money that we
don't have.

Exchange 12 won't be out for a while and when it does no one will force you
to upgrade!

I have had several customers that went active/active against my
recommendation. A few of them learned to regret the decision. A couple of
them have not had any failures, so they don't know if it will work for them
when it matters.

There are problems with active/active, and that is why it isn't recommended.

I've never tried this before with Exchange. I didn't even know you could run
two exchange instances on the same box. Sounds scary to me. Then again, we
use Veritas Cluster Exploder for Exchange at work, so I'm not sure which is
the lesser of the evils.

Russ,
We have been running an active/active here since Exchange 2000 so I
would say about 4 years plus. Not to many problems with it. Basically
the only time we had to run on one node was during patching. We did one
time had to run about 2 days on one node because of a hardware failure which
we didn't see any problems at the time.
Microsoft always says it can do more with less. Who can I contact to
voice my concerns?

I will gladly pass along your concerns. However, from my experience, there
are just too many issues with Active/Active and Exchange. While it can be
done well, there are reasons that it is not recommended.

I took a shot once at trying to cover both sides of the topic here:
