Out of Office Assistant Not Working Outlook2002/Exchange 5.5 |
|
|
Good afternoon -
I currently am running an Exchange 5.5 SP4 enviornment/Outlook 2002. We
removed the critical update (rollback SP4) as it was causing problems.
However, I have a user whose Out of Office Assisant is NOT working. I have
blown away her Outlook profile; I have saved it to a different location and
it still does NOT work.
I ran a virus check, Spybot S&D, AdAware, etc. She did have a version of
VeryLince on her PC, but that has been cleaned off.
She is the ONLY user that is having a problem. I had another user with a
similar issue, but once I cleaned off all the spyware on his PC, it worked
just fine. I also moved his profile to a different location.
What I "see" is that when I put her out of the office and try to send a
"test" message to her account which should say she's out of the office, I get
a return e-mail, but NO out-of-the-office response with the open door icon.
It looks like to me the reply is going somewhere, but I can find where. It
seems like it's hidden for lack of a better explanation.
I need this to work as this user will be out of the office next week for
Thanksgiving. She's the Division Administrator and needs this working.
I'd appreciate any response that may help.
Thanks!!

What is the return e-mail you get? Is it an Out-of-Office message (just
sans icon) or is it something else?
You might want to consider running some kind of live anti-spyware on your
clients (Trend, MS AntiSpyware, CounterSpy or something)

Hi Ben -
When I test an e-mail, she gets the return e-mail, but no auto-reply with
the cute door icon. What's also odd is that if you put her out of the office
and then you exit Outlook and come back in, you get the message that the Out
of Office is on, would you like to turn it off?
I have run spyware, virus checker, etc. We have so many things that we run,
that I don't know if that's it. Plus at the enterprise level we have
IronPort, Brightmail, etc.
It's just so frustrating not to be able to "see" what's happening as the
e-mail is sent, because it "acts" like the auto-reply, out of office response
is going to come through.
This user has several rules set up, but I have checked all of them and they
seem to be appropriate.
Everything is clear on the Exchange Server. She is my only user with this
problem.
I'm probably just going to give her a new PC. That seems to be about the
only option left, unless this issue is tied to her Outlook profile. I have
given her a new network profile and a new Outlook profile.
Any ideas????
Thanks!!

I forgot to add this. She is a BlackBerry user, too. I have other

I guess I'm still confused. :)
You have a user, we'll call them "Adam." Adam goes out of town and turns on
the Out-of-Office. Another user in your office, "Barbara", sends Adam a
message. Adam gets the message from Barbara but Barbara never receives any
Out-of-Office message back from Adam.
When Charlie goes on vacation and sets his Out-of-Office, Barbara gets his
Out-of-Office replies just fine. Anybody else (Dave, Edith, Frank,
Gail)...who sends Adam a message...none of them get any Out-of-Office
replies from Adam.
Is that the scenario?

I am always running and writing in a state of confusion....sorry about that,
Ben :-)
When I "test" out of the office, I just use Adam's account. So, I put Adam
out of the office and then send him a test e-mail. (I do this all the time
for me and it always works). Adam gets an e-mail and but NO out of office
e-mail w/icon. If Adam logs out of Outlook and back in, the reminder box
comes up asking Adam to shut off the Out of Office Assistant. Adam's out of
the office replies do not go to anyone at all.
I hope this clarifies what's going on.
Thanks again, Ben!!

Hi Ben -
Thank you for responding!!
She actually gets only receives the one test e-mail. There is no 2nd
e-mail
that says: Out of Office that comes through with the little door icon.
She is NOT using plain text. I believe she is using HTML. Microsoft Word
is NOT the default editor. I changed that on everyone's PCs eons ago.
Many thanks for your assistance.

So she gets the Out-of-Office reply, it just doesn't have the little door
icon? But otherwise it is the message that says "I'm out of the office,
don't you wish you were?"
Is Outlook set to force all of her mail to go out in Plain Text format?

Hi Ben -
When I test an e-mail, she gets the return e-mail, but no auto-reply
with
the cute door icon. What's also odd is that if you put her out of the
office
and then you exit Outlook and come back in, you get the message that
the
Out
of Office is on, would you like to turn it off?
I have run spyware, virus checker, etc. We have so many things that we
run,
that I don't know if that's it. Plus at the enterprise level we have
IronPort, Brightmail, etc.
It's just so frustrating not to be able to "see" what's happening as
the
e-mail is sent, because it "acts" like the auto-reply, out of office
response
is going to come through.
This user has several rules set up, but I have checked all of them and
they
seem to be appropriate.
Everything is clear on the Exchange Server. She is my only user with
this
problem.
I'm probably just going to give her a new PC. That seems to be about
the
only option left, unless this issue is tied to her Outlook profile. I
have
given her a new network profile and a new Outlook profile.
Any ideas????
Thanks!!

What is the return e-mail you get? Is it an Out-of-Office message

You might want to consider running some kind of live anti-spyware on
your
clients (Trend, MS AntiSpyware, CounterSpy or something)

Good afternoon -
I currently am running an Exchange 5.5 SP4 enviornment/Outlook 2002.
We
removed the critical update (rollback SP4) as it was causing
problems.
However, I have a user whose Out of Office Assisant is NOT working.
I
have
blown away her Outlook profile; I have saved it to a different
location
and
it still does NOT work.
I ran a virus check, Spybot S&D, AdAware, etc. She did have a
version
of
VeryLince on her PC, but that has been cleaned off.
She is the ONLY user that is having a problem. I had another user
with
a
similar issue, but once I cleaned off all the spyware on his PC, it
worked
just fine. I also moved his profile to a different location.
What I "see" is that when I put her out of the office and try to
send a
"test" message to her account which should say she's out of the
office,
I
get
a return e-mail, but NO out-of-the-office response with the open
door
icon.
It looks like to me the reply is going somewhere, but I can find
where.
It
seems like it's hidden for lack of a better explanation.
I need this to work as this user will be out of the office next week
for
Thanksgiving. She's the Division Administrator and needs this
working.
I'd appreciate any response that may help.
Thanks!!
Cordially,
Peggy DaValt
