Unable to deliver to local mailbox's |

I have installed Exchange 2003 on a win 2003 server.
It is a brand new single server exchange system.
Initially it all seamed to work - i.e. I could use outlook 2003 to get into
mailbox and send email to self.
However I have obviously fiddled with something Im not aware of and now when
I send en email to myself if goes through the exchange queues - gets resolved
and put in the local delivery queue but then generates a NDR with error code
5.0.0 - which it tries to deliver to the same mailbox plus administrator -
both of which persumably fail and the message is gone forever.
It does this for ALL mailbox's
Can anybody help with suggesting what the problem is and how I can find out
why it cant do the local delivery, get more detailed error info etc
