Cannot add SMTP e-mail address to user |
|
|
I’m trying to add a SMTP e-mail address to an existing user. When I try I
get the following error:
"Microsoft Active Directory – Exchange Extension
This e-mail address already exists in this organization.
ID no: c10312e7
Microsoft Active Directory – Exchange Extension"
I’ve already tried to query AD for the existing e-mail address, but I can’t
find it anywhere!!
Help please!

It's not case sensitive is it?
ALso, I may sound dumb, but i'm getting confused on the "field" I should be
looking under, such as "user" or "contact", etc.
I've never had to do this.

A very easy way to do this is to go to AD Users & Computers, right-click on
your Domain | Find | change the Find drop-down to "Custom Search" (you could
also change the "IN" drop-down to "Entire Directory" if you have more than 1
domains) | go to Advanced tab | type
"(proxyAddresses=smtp:user@domain.com)".
This will give you the object - of any type (user, group, contact, public
folders... ) - that has that email address.
No, the search is NOT case-sensitive, though email addresses (local-part)
are case sensitive according to RFCs (but not all MTAs treat them as such).
