force remove unapproved email accounts |
|
|
Hi all
Not sure if this should be in the exchange or the outlook group but I'll try
here 1st.
We are setting up exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 clients accross the board.
At the min we have two connections setup in Outlook, the link to the
exchanger server and a link to the users POP3 account (which will eventually
be removed when Exchange fully takes over) Now we'll have it setup that all
incoming mail is virus scanned by the EX server but my worry is that users
will try to setup their own email (private mail) as another a/c in outlook
which will not be scanned thus if a virus gets through it'll go to all our
users !
Is there some way we can prevent users from doing this ? preferable from
the server so we don't have to configure every client !! If any user
already has a private a/c setup and it gets removed thats no problem (might
even be an advantage), they have been warned. One other thing, we have a
few differnt POP accounts (only one per user but not all users have the same
(ie county1.company.com, county2.company.com, and company.com) don't know
if that makes a differnce ?)
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it, as
I said, I'm new to exchange so am just looking for some direction.
thanks

Hi Gerry
You can block port 110 on your firewall, which would stop any POP3 traffic
coming in from the outside. That's assuming your POP3 servers are internal.
Otherwise you could tell your firewall to only allow traffic on port 110
from the specified POP3 servers.

Thanks for the reply, our POP mail is external at the min (soon to change)
so blocking port 110 on our router might just be the way to go.
thanks again

If those clients connect to your domain, you can disable account creation
through a GPO. Download the Office .ADM files from Microsoft.
