We are running Exchange 2003 SP1 an a 2003 Active Directory Environment.

It is all working well, for me anyway. We recently turned off our old 5.5
Exchange and I have installed the Exchange Admin tools for our Helpdesk.
They are Account Operators for the domain and have been granted Full Control
permissions on the mailbox.

The Exchange tabs are visible in ADUC but if they try and edit an email
address they get:
There is no such object on the server
Facility: Win32
ID no: c0072030
MS AD - Exchange Extension.

If they go to the Exchange Advanced tab and click on Mialbox Rights, they get:
There is no such object on the server
Facility: LDAP Provider
ID no: 80072030
MS AD - Exchange Extension.

I am a domain admin and can log on to a Helpdesk PC and do not get the
errors. I have added the Helpdesk users to the local admins group on the
Exchange server but this did not make any difference. I assume that this is
some sort of permission issue but cannot work out what.

Can ayone help.
Thanks.

The first error is common enough but the second one can be caused by
many things. Sounds too coincidental for them to not be related though.
Here's one solution for the first error from MS
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=905809. I'd try the first step to see
if it might resolve both issues.

I had come across that article and although the error isn't exactly the same
it does look very likely. I'm not entirely happy running a command that I am
unsure what it is doing.
Is there a way of setting all the permissions manually? instead of using:

sc sdset SCMANAGER
D:(A;;CCLCRPRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCRPWPRC;;;SY)(A;;KA;;;BA)S:(AU;FA;KA;;;WD)(AU;OIIOFA;GA;;;WD)

At least that way I could understand what is happening.

I hear you. You could probably do this manually (or, at least,
programatically) but I'd be pretty hesitant to do so unless you were
absolutely confident you had all right DACL/SACL info. Since I'm not
sure of the nuances of sc.exe, and what additional stuff it may do in
the background to get things working, I'd probably just cross my
fingers and run it.

Perhaps someone else has an alternative option?
