I downloaded the Microsoft Exchange Server Profile Analyzer yesterday
and ran it aginst serval of my 5 Exchange 2003 SP1 servers. Theses
serves are active/passave clusters. And usally have 1000 users per
server. On most servers I got 100 mailboxs returning information and
error on the rest.

Is this normal? Do the users have to be logged in to have information
repoted back?

There is little information on how this product does work so I am a bit
confused.

Hi Jeff!

Profile Analyzer connects to your servers using DAV to gather mailbox
statistics. Most likely this is a permissions problem. The first
troubleshooting step I would suggest is attempting to use OWA to connect to
a mailbox that you are getting an error on
(http://servername/exchange/user/) and see if you get an access denied
messsage. If so, make sure the permission settings that are described in the
documentation were inherited by the accounts that are showing errors.

Basically the user that is running Profile Analyzer (or the account that you
specify when running the tool) needs to have full access to the mailbox in
order to logon and generate statistics.

Feel free to send any feedback on the tool directly to epafb@microsoft.com,
and we will be monitoring this newsgroup as well.

How do you explain 401 errors on the PROPFIND command issued by the
tool -- even on the mailbox of the account that's running the Profile
Analyzer?

The user is able to use OWA just fine, but PROPFIND isn't one of the
commands that OWA uses to read/send mail (at least that I can see from
looking at the IIS logs).

A check on the user's "Security" tab in ADUC shows the account has
"Send/Receive As" permissions. Checking the "Mailbox rights" on the
users shows it inherited the "Read Permissions" and "Full mailbox
access" rights.

Client:
Windows XP SP2
MS Office 2003 SP2
All available corrections in Microsoft Update are installed

Server:
Windows 2003 SP1
Exchange 2003 SP2
All available corrections in Microsoft Update are installed

The credentials used to run EPA belong to a user whose only group
membership is "Domain Users".

I've attached the EPA config file and the log file (verbose). I also
included the portions of the IIS log showing the 401 errors.
