I have taken over a client who is running Windows 2000 A/S. The prior tech
support person has made the change very difficult (such as not providing
passwords for the server, router and ISP). I plan on upgrading the client to
SBS 2003.
The prior tech now tells us the Exchange Server running on the Win 2k A/S is
"his" and he was only loaning it to the client. He tells us he has to
un-install the Exchange Server and take it with him. Is that true? Does he
have to uninstall? Why can't he simply use the license on a different machine
since I will replace it with SBS's Exchange server?
Thanks
Rich

So he installed his own licensed copy on a customer's server? Sounds
as if he is full of crap. You don't loan a license. Does the client
have a reciept or proof that they bought the license? If not, since
they are upgrading and I presume they have purchased the license for
SBS 2003, they should be ok and there is no reason to remove the
current installation regardless.
Tell the prior guy to pound sand.
