Sharing Tasks |

We are running Exchange 2000 on our server (Win 2000 SP4) & Outlook
2002 on client machines.
Mike wants to send a task to Dave & thinks it should automatically go
into Dave's Task list on Dave's machine?
Outlook on both client machines are set to use .pst as the mail
storage.
I've tried right clicking the task folder on both Mike & Dave's machine
but the sharing option in the administration tab is grayed out!
Is it possible to send a task from one machine & for it to
automatically be stored in the task folder of the other machine??
When I've tried sending tasks this way they seem to be an attachment.
Please help.............

Don't use PST files - keep all mail in the mailbox, and then you can share
folders. PST files are not a good place to keep the data.
Mike can assign a task to Dave and it should go to Dave's task list. |

Sorry to be simple, but could you advise how I could do this as I'm new
to this & dont wish to mess anything up.
I've got a nasty feeling this might not be possible as I know we
changed ISP a while ago & now have our email delivered in POP3 format
and not SMTP feed.
Therefore we have a third party piece of software (exchange pop3 5.0)
which distributes our mail.
Does mail have to be delivered in SMTP format for mail to be stored in
..mbx on server?

How come?

This is not a recommended configuration. If you have a registered domain
name, much better to host your mail directly via SMTP as you were doing. The
ISP really doesn't have much to do with it. What's the reason you switched
configurations?

No - you can (and should) make sure the mailbox is the delivery location for
all data - and copy the items from the PST files into the mailboxes, then
remove the PST files from the mail profile. |

I inherited the setup from the last guy, who is his wisdom switched ISP
(To save money) That's when the fun began with the feed i.e. POP3
instead of SMTP.
Whereabouts would I locate the mailbox where all data should go?
When I try to add a different location to store email on my client
machine within outlook Tools>options>mail setup>data files it only
allows me to add an additional .pst folder
Also when I right click any folder to grant permission for another
person the option to allow is grayed out |

Well, you can probably change that. I don't see why you couldn't.
Take a look at http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF002.html
You can do this even if you have a dynamic IP from your ISP (although a
static is preferred) - see www.dyndns.org for one of many dynamic DNS
service options.

It's in the exchange server. What's in the mail profile? Go to tools | email
accounts | view/modify.....and if you don't see the Exchange server in
there, add a new email account, point it at the Exchange server & add the
user's mailbox alias.

If the Exchange server is in the profile, you should see the delivery
location in tools | email accounts and should be able to pick the mailbox.

Right, because you are using a PST file for delivery. That will change if
you change to the mailbox.
You then need to copy all data from the PST to the mailbox in Outlook - then
I'd remove the PST file from the mail profile.
Note that mixing account types (Exchange & Internet mail) in Outlook isn't
recommended, and isn't even supported in versions of OL prior to OL2002. I'd
get rid of the POP entirely as mentioned above. |
