Public Folders in ESM? |

I hope this is a dumb question. We have 4 sites, with 4 Exchange 2000
servers, in 4 AGs. We are installing new Exchange 2003 servers in each site,
and migrating everything from the old 2000 boxes. The main location went
well, but had a problem moving the public folders at one of the remote
locations. PFMIGRATE did not find any folders to add replicas for. In
looking at ESM, there is no "Folders" container under the AG for this
particular location like there is at the main location. If I browse down
through Servers, I can see the Public Folders on the 2000 server, but I
can't seem to migrate them to the 2003. Is there something I'm looking at
incorrectly?

There is only ne "Folders" container for the entire organization. It's
in the first AG by dfault. If you're running in native-mode Exchange
you can create another AG that holds ONLY the PF hierarchies and then
move the Folders there. This way it isn't necessary to give
permissions to an AG that contains servers to people that shouldn't
have that permission.

If the user that runs the PFMigrate tool doesn't have the necessary
permissions to the AG, I suppose te tool might not work.

Thanks - I was hoping it was something I didn't quite understand like that.
The AG in question in NOT the first site, so that would explain that. The
user that I'm using to run PFMIGRATE is a domain admin, but I guess I don't
have access to find out what kind of rights it has on the public folders.
What is the best way to add replicas of the folders on the E2K server to the
E2K3 server? Do I need to run PFMIGRATE from the primary site, specifying
the servers in the remote site?

It doesn't have to be the first AG, that's just where it winds up if
you haven't moved it somewhere else. :)

Domain admins aren't Exchange Full Administrators. And Domain Admins
have "deny" ACE's to keep them from doing things they only *think*
they should be able to do.

Try it with a user that's an Exchange Full Administrator.

The way you did. But the PFMigrate doesn't actuall migrate a thing --
it just adds the replicas to the folders properties.

Where you you run it isn't so important as who runs it. :)
