In the midst of an Exchange migration from an old Win2KSP4 server with Exch
5.5 to a new Win2K3SP1 server with Exch 2003. Got ADC working for mailbox,
recipients, etc. but the ADC would never replicate my Publics. Now, I am
unable to replicate Free/Busy, OAB, etc. in order to retire the Exch 5.5
server. Has anyone ever encountered a situation where they basically retired
the old 5.5 server without first having replicated all the necessary system
and public folders? What would happen at this point if I were to just unplig
the Exchange 5.5 server and plan a restore later to get any remaining items?

Thanks in advance.

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/PFMIGRATE.html

Here is a PFMIGRATE overview. It should go quick if you can get the 5.5
server back online.

FYI ADC doesn't replicate Public/sytem folder information. You need to use
the PFMIGRATE tool for this. Do a search on the Support section of
microsoft.com for more information on PFMIGRATE.

My concern would be the System Folders. If you didn't replicate these before
you decomissioned the 5.5 server you will have issues with free busy and
possibly the Offline Address Book and Forms.

You can reset these folders using GUIDGEN however I would use this as a last
resort since it will reset the PF permissions as well. If it is at all
possible I would try to get the 5.5 server back online and use the PFMIGRATE
tool to migrate the public folder tree and the system folders.

It seems this is a common mistake people make during a 5.5 to 2003 migration.
